I make my own buttermilk drop biscuits.

They are awesome.

Finding decent buttermilk is a PITA, but it’s worth it.

Bulgarian buttermilk is the best (for biscuits and pancakes).

Make your own buttermilk, by making your own butter. Ridiculously easy. Heavy cream is $1.55/pint at Aldi. Stir a couple tablespoons real cultured sour cream (no additives) in a pint of cream, cover it and leave it on the counter for a couple of days, add a pinch of salt, then beat it til it turns to butter. The liquid remaining is buttermilk. Pour it into a jar and keep in fridge til you need to use it to make biscuits, then you have to wash the butter in ice water til water runs clear, pour it off, and shape and wrap the butter.
