Flu being the singular exception. Flu deaths average 36,000 per year. In 2020, total deaths were up by 500,000 over 2019. That’s a 17% jump. Normal year-over-year increases are 0.3% - 0.5%.
Meanwhile, deaths from heart attacks, cancer, etc. were all at or above normal levels. So no, deaths were not simply all lumped into COVID-19; there were just a whole bunch of more deaths than usual. A lot more than there needed to be. But you’ll have to talk to governors like Cuomo and Newsom for more info on that one.
