Does this ruling apply to the entire US or just the Federal District for Texas?

This has been insane for landlords. A basic abolition of private property.

Note they never cancelled property taxes.

We need to open things back up and let this virus take who it’s going to. Fact is you are not going to stop the virus only slow it down at best.

I knew that. From the start I said that the government has no right to invalidate a valid contract between two parties. I don’t care if Trump decreed it, he had no right to do so.

They have no right. All other considerations have no importance next to that one.

The evil mom & pop landlords are being forced out to make room for the socially conscious hedge fund landlords to takeover.

It is likewise constitutionally illegal for the state to do this. They are depriving people of their property. Many of these tenants still have income and don’t see the need to pay. And the landlords are going belly up. If a landlord has decided to sell out then they can’t even do that.

In Atlanta, GA, they are completely ignoring the moratorium. I have friends who have struggled with rent, and while they have avoided eviction, when they go to court, the judge is gaveling anyone down who mentions the moratorium, and evicting left and right.

The CDC and FedGov intervention into every aspect of US life doesn't come from any place sane . . . it is borne of the current technological state of affairs. But for high-speed internet, virtual work and especially video schooling would be impossible, just 5 years ago. Electronic payments and online shopping have facilitated continued commerce. No past government would have had the inclination to entertain a shut-down, realizing every gear in industry/medicine/food would stop in days.

"Because we can" is a really poor rationale.
