Across America, math teaching practices that were considered essential are suddenly being condemned as racist.
In George Orwell’s dystopian novel 1984, set in the superstate of Oceania, the government propagates the absurd equation 2 + 2 = 5. Through steady indoctrination, and under the ever-watchful Thought Police, the citizens accept it as an unquestionable truth. The equation symbolizes the extinction of free thought in repressive totalitarian societies: facts, truths and objective reality are subordinated to political will and twisted to serve the authoritarian goals of the Party and its leader, Big Brother.
Something similar is happening in many American schools. An eerie Orwellian shadow is being cast over math instruction. The focus is insidiously shifting from arithmetic, geometry, and algebra to critical race theory, ethnic studies, and intersectionality. Ridiculous as it may sound, an objective field of knowledge is being thrust into the realm of social experimentation. Students are being taught not how to think but what to think. Instead of developing critical thinking skills, today’s math classes stipulate that students hold particular views about the world and instruct them on how they must extinguish what is posited as “wrongthink.”
Across America, math teaching practices that were considered essential are suddenly being condemned as racist, requiring students to display the steps in solving a problem is now deemed white supremacist; teachers’ corrections, and even the concept of a correct answer, are considered suspect or undesirable; polite interaction, raising hands before commenting or asking questions, and maintaining order in the classroom are viewed as reinforcing paternalism and condemned as “power hoarding.”

Math pisses off stupid people and they are usually the ones most likely to do stupid things when pissed off because , well, they’re stupid. Guess who the stupid peole are now all mad about math?
The people who claim math is racist should be asked to explain the movie “Hidden Figures.”
Funny...when I was in high school I was convinced that algebra was racist. Now a good portion of the population thinks that simple arithmetic is racist. How times have changed.
I have a magnet on my fridge “I hated math until I discovered pi” and it has a drawing of a piece of pie on it.
You might as well just memorize one more digit and not have to do any division: 3.141592
I’m fortunate 5hat I can still memorize anything with the volume and speed of information these days ... but I’m addicted to it ... although fortunately a fine single malt provides a brief respite from the turmoil each evening. Cheers!

Heh. I”m a Business analyst in IT. The thing is, I was going to retire sometime in 2020, but now that I’m saving $750 a month in commuting costs and three hours a day - and can work from anywhere in the country, I’m not killing this golden goose. Heck, when my father died last summer in Seattle, I worked from there for three weeks.
The day they end WFH is the day I retire.

It took him 16hrs 30mins. This feat makes him the master pi-man, even though the Guinness Book of records has not validated his record.
And in America were discussing racism in mathematics. We’re so screwed.
If accepted, no new plane will ever fly, no new rocket will ever send someone to space, and no car will last with the new math of the left.

I have a Las Vegas 5th grade teacher in my home.
She teaches ghetto kids...remotely.
