Coincidentally, Vic Bergeron [1902 – 1984] founded the Trader Vic's chain of [then-] exotic tropical restaurants, featuring [faux-] Polynesian dishes, Tiki bars, & flaming torches.

At the height of their popularity ~ 30 locations – some of them outside the U.S. – were open.

The one at 20 Cosmo Place in S.F. had a very long run. Enjoyed several dinners there.

Don't know if Vic's last name inspired or had any connection to Vonnegut's story.
