"Plus, I want to hear the deets on the kitchen cabinets! I’m sure yours will be fancier and bigger than what I would want, but at least gives me an idea of what I might be facing IF I decide for economic reasons that this will be my retirement home."

I don't think our new cabinets in the new house will be fancy at all. Not after the numbers I got today! 16000 for the cabinets and 3000 for labor. And that's just middle-of-the-road cabinets. I guess the increase in building supplies is hitting the cabinet industry as well.

Here s our old house's kitchen. Excuse the cleaning supplies :-) these were rustic Alder, an expensive upgrade, that's something we're not doing again obviously! I think they cost just about the same as what they want for a lesser cabinet and fewer of them now!

I got some preliminary numbers on door fronts, to just replace the doors. Looks like that'll be at least 10k. And that doesn't include installation.

Plan B. Paint the existing cabinets. Put some beautiful Granite on them and a nice backsplash and a nice floor. It's like putting lipstick on a pig but maybe it'll work. Lots of lipstick.

#1 son who has a framing company has told us building supplies prices are going through the roof.

He is even having a hard time getting some things.

Not a good time to be remodeling, can you live with what you got for a time and hopefully things will come down.

Oh never mind, under Biden things will continue to go up for the next 4 years, what was I thinking?

16000 for the cabinets!! JUST the cabinets, or cabinets, flooring, backsplash??

Did the 3000 including tearing out/removal of the current cabinets as well?

The last owner painted the original cabinets (25 years old) but they have water damage, plus they have the narrow doors with the spline between the two doors. You know the kind, I'm sure. (not my cabinet)

They did put a granite countertop in but I hate it. Reminds me of fish scales. I'd rather have a nice laminate or maybe solid countertop, to be honest. I wouldn't have a chef's kitchen. LOL

I hate the farmhouse sink; I hate the faucet. I could change out the faucet right now, I guess. LOL

OMG.. I LOVE your old kitchen... NO NO NO NO updates needed by me. love your counter space and cupboards.. I am in a small galley kitchen in Jen’s condo. NO storage and very little counter space. Okay if one just plops a frozen TV dinner type offering in Microwave.. but for we serious cooks.. well difficult

I have a LOT of good stuff to bring here to Jen’s still.. EXPENSIVE china and crystal/ alhambra/Franscian dinnerware/ silver/silver plate. My artwork (that hasn’t been destroyed by resident raccoons is really nice stuff.. expensive.
