Not sure if this is everywhere, but here in Tennessee we have ‘winters’. They're named based on the trees that bloom right around the cold spell. The youngins or outsiders might not be aware of the info, since it's some of that old timey information handed down through the years.
Redbud winter
Dogwood winter
Locust winter (not the bugs, but the locust tree LOL)
Blackberry winter
