Fascinating discussion... a couple of things we did...

We asked our kids do they want all the junk in the attic after we die.
The answer was no...they’d probably toss it.,,didn’t want to go thru it...

So I gathered up each’s “stuff”, brought it down,
and asked them to go through it to see if they wanted anything.

Made ‘em go thru the boxes. Turns out they did want a lot of stuff. Videos, old awards, photos...

Then, I took pictures of stuff my wife kept - cabbage patch kids w\the birth certificates; Montgomery Moose & his sister etc...and sent them to the kids, My daughter wanted the cabbage patch kids and Montgomery Moose to give to her kids... my son didn’t want anything but his wife did... LOL..

still stuff up there. my wife is sure beanie babies will make a comeback :)

I even hit my old computer stuff...boxes of it...who needs a 56k modem anymore...got it down to one box.
Now my ceilings don’t sag so much...

I like your idea about sending pictures. 2 kids out of state, 2 in. Most of the grandkids live out, so my grandma’s house toys are not getting much use. I am thinking this is a good time to divide up the toys and send out for the grands to have at their house. Legos, trucks, etc. I’ll keep a few.

We’ve got stuff from our parents/grandparents here too. I’m pretty sure most of it will not be wanted by the kids either. As I go through stuff, I can send pics out to see if there’s anyone interested and if not, I can remove with clear conscious.
