It depends (my stock answer at work! LOL).

The traditional magnolia you think about in the south, with the huge leaves and the big white flowers that smell wonderful, are evergreens. This is the kind at the White House.

Saucer magnolias are deciduous.

Grew up 300 yards from a Magnolia and that smell sickens me to this day LOL!
