2021 ford f-150 charging tesla car powering home A recent report suggests that Ford is asking Texas dealers to loan out new 2021 F-150 trucks with generators in order to help during power outages. This report comes to us via Autonews (subscription is required). Ford is reportedly offering bonus money to dealerships if they loan the new trucks with the Pro Power Onboard inverter/generator systems. These trucks are capable of providing between 2.0 kW and 7.2 kW of power at up to 30 amps.
The new 2021 Ford F-150 trucks with either a 3.5L twin-turbo V6 or the 5.0L V8 may be optioned with a 2.0 kW inverter/generator system. The new F-150 Hybrid comes standard with a 2.4 kW system that can be optioned up to a maximum of 7.2 kW of output. We have thoroughly tested this Hybrid system, and it is powerful enough to charge an electric car or power two large camping trailers at the same time (depending on which appliances are being used).
The F-150 Hybrid is equipped with a 30-gallon fuel tank and it can provide around 30 hours of maximum 7.2kW output on a full tank. The truck uses its onboard 1.5 kWh battery as an energy buffer while the 3.5L V6 is idling to continue to generate energy.

Huh - fossil-fuel powered generators are always reliable, even during the worst weather conditions. Imagine that.
The power goes out frequently here, because we live near the mountains in the middle of a bunch of tall fir trees that cause problems when it gets stormy. We have a thirty year old 5KW generator with a Briggs IC engine hooked to natural gas. We flick a switch on the electrical panel and start it up... Life then goes on as normal with the addition of a little generator noise, but we have to remember not to run the microwave and the toaster at the same time, because they are both on the same side of the 240v generator output and it causes problems. Our power has been out for two weeks straight on a couple occasions. All of our neighbors have generators as well. When coming home on a stormy day you can hear the generators running as you approach our neighborhood. We run the generator 24/7 until the power comes back on. The oil level is checked once a day.
We have a 5KW Honda clone generator as a backup but so far it has only been used by family and friends.
The truck is going to be $40 to $60k but if someone is going to buy a new vehicle or a truck anyway, it is the price of the option that matters and it is something to consider.

It stores under the front seat, and when needed I clip it onto the battery of the car and power 120V. Price was under $200 for a 15 amp unit (cheaper than a generator). It obviously won't power my whole house, but I could run my natural gas furnace if I had to.

One of our adult DNA pool got last year’s Ford truck as his company truck.
He tried to get that truck delayed for this model.
So all the new Ford trucks with this feature will be out in the ice and salt? I assume purchasers of these trucks will receive a discount.
The best thing in my humble opinion is a big woodstove. Electricity is important, but there is nothing more satisfying than putting those big tall fir trees into the big black box and enjoying all that warmth!

Yup, Ford caught GM and Ram flat footed on this option. Guessing it will be available on the 2022 models though. As a travel trailer camper and do remote camping every now and then this oem generator option is really interesting as I find loading and unloading my 3500 watt Champion generator a real pain. Much prefer my 6.2L Chevy V-8 over the Ford V-6 teapot but the Ford Generator option has me thinking for sure.
You are a funny guy, but some people might not realize that you are blowing smoke up their butts. We have been using the same 5KW Briggs IC powered generator for over 30 years. Our power has been out for weeks at a time and the generator has been run 24/7. No major work has had to be done on the engine. The pull starter has been repaired a couple times, the oil has been changed many times along with the air filter. We have a honda clone powered generator as a backup that gets lent out. Neither of them is an inverter style. Both of them cost less than $500, neither of them sound like “Randy Quaid’s lawnmower”. The Honda Clone is very quiet and we put the Briggs powered generator under an insulated shed that deflects the noise away from the house.
You don't have a lot of experience using a generator.
After one of them fell on our neighbors house I cut down over a dozen 100 foot tall fir trees on our property with a little help from a couple of friends last year. We have two wood stoves and a wood burning fireplace in our house. We burned a lot of branches mostly outside, but all of the logs were cut up into lumber which currently is worth a small fortune and I prefer to just use the natural gas furnace. I got enough exercise cutting down the trees and dragging them up the hill.
Too bad our government leadership doesn’t have any entrepreneurial creative thinkers these days. It would be very interesting to know what would’ve happened under President Trump. Most likely Washington would not have waited until a week AFTER the deep freeze begin to declare an emergency.
Having all that wood on hand with stoves is like money in the bank!
I should not feel too self-satisfied today. About a half-cord of my dozen plus fell over and collapsed my fence where it was stacked.
Firewood warms you many times in the process, but not what I had planned today.
