The Portuguese, French, Dutch and Spanish colonists to the New World also imported vast numbers of slaves, mostly from Africa, in a trade that was well supplied by the Muslim traders of both East and West Africa.
So lay the blame on the Muslim people who captured (and are still capturing) slaves in the first place.
So if you are looking for a place to assess guilt, there are your suspects. Excuse them or prosecute them, does anybody in the whole WORLD have the testicular fortitude to proceed?
I’m not looking to “assign guilt”, we could easily blame Thailand if you’d like.
For the 13 colonies: Who’s ships were these? Who’s governments were these? Who’s cargo was this? There’s only one answer, and it’s incorrect to put America on the answer line.
“Excuse them or prosecute them, does anybody in the whole WORLD have the testicular fortitude to proceed?”
I’m wondering that very thing. Asking specific questions comes up with only one answer every single time. Iran didn’t bring the slaves to the 13 colonies and act as the enforcement arm against early abolition efforts. Who did? Be specific.
