I started listening to Rush in the early 1990s, and although I enjoyed him throughout his career, his early days were especially entertaining. From putting a condom over the mic (safe talk), his "update themes" (can name many of them), and his exposure of the House Bank Scandal, these are what I remember him for and wish that level of irreverence had continued. What do you remember from those days?

I listened from the beginning, back in the late 80’s I think. I was in Raleigh, NC at the time. My position allowed me to control my own schedule, so I’d make certain to take my lunch break in order to tune in. Over all the years... the time I remember the most was during the “jumpin” jim jeffords ordeal. jeffords left the republicans and joined the democrats. A caller suggested that maybe mccain could switch to the republican party. It got Rush laughing, so was I and I’m sure there were a lot of others that found that amusing.
I watched his TV show as long as it was on. Loved it. But, he didn’t care for doing TV, something about the “format”. One of Rush’s strongest assets was his sense of humor.
My favorite was the feminazi theme song... “...talkin bout men...” Was that Barney Rubble giggling in the background?
Yeah! That one was funny too.
My favorite fill-in is Mark Steyn. One quick, smart dude with a sense of humor to boot!
