Peasants past were close enough to food production that they could see famine coming and prepare (however meagerly). They knew food later took effort now.
Today’s ‘peasants’ think food appears on shelves, and will be far from prepared when those shelves just stop restocking.
I also wonder what % of US adults have ever actually worked hard outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Or gone a day without eating apart from medical reasons. It has to be the lowest % in all of history at this point.
Also, if the internet/cell phones/ passive screen entertainment goes away I imagine a sizable % of people will simply go into some sort of psychosis as they try to deal with reality without their screen interface.
