I remember my dad saying “walmart” was just a copycat getting unearned name recognition by mashing up “Walgreens” and “K-Mart”. I guess we didn't know about the Waltons back then.

Didn't Walmart take over Kress and Woolworth when they went out of business, except they sell food and other things that the other two stores didn't...

I loved those two stores when I was little, the floor boards cracked as you walked and you got the very best Tomato, Lettuce and Bacon sandwiches ever!!!

i had forgotten that Kmart used to be Kresges. Funny Woolworth’s goes on strong in other parts of the English speaking world.
