Let’s face it. Pence was given the reigns of running the COVID pandemic. What did he really do? His briefings were terrible, gave little information and Trump had to eventually takeover, yet still praised Pence, knowing full well he failed.
I believe President Trump effectively de-fanged Pence by making him head of the Chinavirus Task Force, a difficult political position.
Honestly, Trump, the man, didn’t want or need a VP. A VP was an encumbrance, a potted plant, who would have to for appearances sake, be watered frequently in order to hold up for four years, and be bragged about for its green leaves. Ghastly scenario.
Who would ever want the VP job, working next to a giant! Political and emotional suicide, unless you hoped to run for the presidency?
Trump made such wreckage of the Swamp that Pence soon learned he was out of his league to ever hope to restore it and still square it with the new Trump voters.
Trump only made the devil deal for Pillsbury Boy on his ticket to settle the nerves of the RyanMitchCornyns.

In politics, the party is stronger than any friendships. Pence became VP to keep an eye on and undermine Trump whenever possible. He was chosen. He is total Deep State and always was.
In the end he was good at being sneaky and slimy, much better than actually governing because he was a lackluster coward and wouldn’t even stick up for his so called Christian convictions.
