Visiting his "niece" in Ireland?

The niece thing is a cliché in old movies, with older guys introducing the sweet young thing they're having lunch with as their niece. My wife remembers her 16-year-old self visiting her American fighter pilot uncle in Spain, and traveling around with him in his Porsche as his actual niece -- and now wonders how many people believed she was really his niece.

My brother married a Chinese woman and they have a very fetching 20-something daughter who combines the best of them. I can imagine the snickering if I took her out to lunch and introduced her as my niece.
