“before it would truly have an effect on the show continuing”

The Mandalorian will continue, but that’s a separate issue from whether Disney can justify multiple spinoffs from the show. Spinoffs require not just enough audience to support the budget of a show, but a surplus of audience such that it might justify multiple other shows. There’s no way that is going to happen now.

I suppose we may see season 1 of a few spinoffs if they were already in production and the money was spent. Beyond that, don’t get your hopes up.

“I don’t have any illusions that a conservative boycott will change anything.”

I’m not talking about a conservative boycott though. This will trigger a general boycott of the Star Wars fandom (aka “The Fandom Menace”). They’ve already been talking about it for months because it was obvious Disney was just waiting to make a move like this.

I suspect there is a lot of overlap between conservatives, and those who were contemplating a boycott before all this. My son is 20, a huge Star Wars/Mandalorian fan, and a conservative who has been anti-Disney for awhile. He fits right in there, and he's told me he's done with it.

You're right about the spinoffs -- the legs just won't be there for them. It's too bad, because Carano as that character was really good. A female soldier who was actually believable in that role, and knew how to act as if she'd experienced actual violence on some place other than a movie set. The contrast between her and the varies 110 pound girls trying to pull off the "warrior" vibe on other shows was really stark.

Disney deserves every ounce of blowback for this we can muster.
