When I read the article, I was immediately reminded of this scene from Schindler’s List, when Commandant Amon Goth is talking to the Jewish woman, Helen Hirsch, who he made into his servant. He says, “I realize you are not a person in the strictest sense.” He asks, “Is this the face of a rat?” “Are these the eyes of a rat?” The propaganda of the Nazis is speaking loudly to him. Yet something deeper is making him question the anti-Semitic messages. He acknowledges that she is a good servant and a good cook. But how can this be? How can there be anything good in her at all? After all, she is a Jew.

Commandant Goth finally gives in to his pathological anti-Semitic hatred, refusing to give in to any kindness, and instead, decides to beat her. But there is no audience in the room for which he is performing.
But the author, Virginia Heffernan, of this anti-Trump article is performing for the readers of the Los Angeles Times. It’s as though she will acknowledge the kindness of her pro-Trump neighbors—if only briefly—who cleaned off her driveway. But the sneering hatred comes out in the end, again, like Commandant Goth. She must let her readers know that the anti-Trump hatred lives loudly in her, and that in the end, she will abide by her hatred and mistrust.
The anti-Trump propaganda is living loudly in the Left and is becoming increasing audacious. And the propaganda says, “Forget what you personally experience with a Trump supporter. Instead, keep on the front burner how bad they are.” The anti-Trump message from the MSM must stay front and center and is to be believed, no matter what you may personally experience when you encounter a Trump supporter.
