I resent the use of “technocrat” as a label. I like technical pursuits and know that people in technologies (e.g., building masonry heaters) have more sense than most academics or global tycoons.
If representative (democratic) enough, a real technocracy would be the best kind of government possible. That’s not what we’re under now. Most of our leaders now are not capable of building porch steps or repairing their cars.

Thus a proposal:
In order for someone to run for office, or maybe apply for any managerial type job for that matter, the person must at some time have “worked on their tools”, i.e. worked in some trade craft. It’s a term used by some engineers in the refining/chemical/pipeline business who have at one time worked as a technician, electrician, pipefitter, millwright, you get the idea. I finished my engineering degree at night while working as a technician during the day. Not easy doing all that, but then I started my engineering career with some practical background.
Yet we have politicians and bureaucrats who have never ventured beyond their bubble since college. No knowledge of the real world and out of touch with reality.
