I wouldn’t call Horse Latitudes a chant, there is no musical content in the track - with some bkgd sound effects like wind and others alluding to noise akin to a ship /storm at sea its Jim reciting a poem he wrote and its not babble at all.

I guess I was being a little bit dismissive of it in my last post. I did try to find deep meaning in those words, never really found them, but perhaps I was looking too deeply. But again, I was quit young an impressionable.

Anyway, yeah, I much appreciated the musical stuff form the Doors much more.

Cryptic is a better word, not sure of any hidden meaning but somebody has surely written something “deep” about that poem.

There are screaming horses in the song IIRC.

The song refers to the still latitudes where sailing ships became calmed to the point that they would drive the horses they carried overboard to save water.
