My mother was an art historian and I grew up as child looking at the pictures in the art books that lined the walls and reading about them, so this is something I am familiar with. Not ascertaining the nature of this portrayal, I have no idea what’s going on. But the lack of 2000 year old middele eastern dress style does not necessarily mean anything one way or the other.

Thank you for this update. I wondered if using more contemporary styles could be the artist's concept in the scene. I have no art history knowledge at all.

Way behind now. Got to catch up.

I remember Dutch painters in the 1600s paintings of biblical scenes and the people were dressed in European type garb, and also in the Renaissance and before, same thing. Not invariably but often enough.

(I had enough of Hieronymous Bosch as a child to last me a lifetime...)
