I was there about 10 years ago, Dallas..... was ready to get out! Nobody spoke English... had to bring a girl from un back at a McDonald’s to take our order, the front lounge spoke no English. Hated the place

I grew up in Dallas. Wouldn’t go back even if everything was free.
However, of the 254 counties there, almost 1/3 are 2nd Amendment sanctuary counties & & are upfront traditional thinking Texans. Just steer clear from the Metro areas..
I lived in Houston from 1978-1980. Much different from what you described. I’m sure it’s not the same place now.
