Overall, it is a way to get around runoffs. I’d prefer runoffs since each layer of complexity you add to an election = more ways to cheat. The best voting method is the simplest ... show up on one day to cast one and only one “primary choice” for a candidate in person.
I am probably in the minority in this group in that I’d prefer machines to count the votes (so long as there is a paper trail; plus absolutely NO internet access; there are ways to do this securely). I don’t want anyone’s hands on my ballot unless they absolutely have to count it.
What I don’t get is that I recall people claiming that the Dominion voting machines needed support for fractional numbers due to ranked choice voting. That is NOT true. There is nothing fractional about it. No voting machine needs to know anything about fractions. If these machines use them for whatever reason, that’s a sign that the people engineering the system couldn’t care less about security.
