Is the flooded rank on top of a pond or a tennis court or just some ground? I know that northern areas have very creative ways of making ice rinks.

I am enjoying picturing you watching kids having fun ice-skating. That’s what should be happening where it is very cold, not freezing in a heatless home like down in Texas.

Hi Freee-dame....

My daughter and son live about 10 miles apart, and they both have ponds. Sons pond is more shallow, and surrounded by trees in a clearing not far from his house (he’s on about 1 1/2 acres). The farm has a couple of ponds, but they cleared and flooded and maintain the large irrigation pond about 300 feet from the house. We had a pond while the kids were growing up, and so they like keeping a rink.

There are contests up here for back yard rinks. I think one of the prizes is about $25,000.00. My son is going to enter next year - he loves working on the rink. He is going to put some color into the ice next year. Both the kids have nice bonfire pits and muskoka chairs next to the ice, for our comfort and viewing pleasure.
