The US Supreme Court on Monday threw out a lawsuit alleging that former President Donald Trump had illegally profited from his presidency, the Associated Press reports.

Democrats and members of the mainstream media have long promoted the idea that Trump was illegally profiting from his job as president. Many, but not all of these theories were somehow connected to Russia.

The allegations were that Trump had been in violation of the emoluments clause of the Constitution through receiving payment from officials both foreign and domestic who paid for their stays at the Trump International Hotel, and purchased goods or services from other Trump owned businesses.

Trump had previously challenged rulings by lower courts allowing him to be sued for the allegations, alleging that a sitting President cannot be sued for this matter. The Supreme Court disregarded this challenge.
