The Catholic Church did not approve of Cremation prior to 1963. Even then, there were strict Guidelines regarding the treatment of the Ashes.

My very devout Uncle died in the mid 90’s. He was very specific about being Interred, not Cremated. I would have imagined that Justice Scalia, a very devout Catholic would have felt the same. We’ll never know what really happened.
