Fun story about Spector during his “Ronette Daze”...
At Gold Star studios (IIRC), he had a young kid as a gopher who, instead of getting paid, accepted free time in the studio.
That gopher and his girlfriend eventually recorded some songs and became pop stars in their own right.
The gopher was Sonny and his girlfriend was Cher.
That reminds me of the story about Mike Oldfield and how he got to record Tubular Bells, basically Richard Branson let him have free studio time to record it while he would play sessions for other artists.
