It was probably an unintended discharge. Phil often played with guns, waving them around, pointing them, threatening.
I worked for a high end auto stereo and accessories store as an installer she was a client met just about everyone that was popular or up and coming back then
And Ronnie Spector and Keith Richards dated.
Spector was notorious for getting loaded and waving a gun around the recording studio during sessions.
He was drunk and medicated beyond your wildest imagination. The guy was a midget, yet reportedly could drink a sailor under the table. And he had a history of crazy, violent behavior when intoxicated.
BAT shit crazy.
Spector had produced Lennon’s “Rock ‘n’ Roll” album. At one point Spector fired a gun inches from Lennon’s head. Lennon reputedly said “Phil, if you’re going to kill me, kill me. But don’t f**k with my ears. I need ‘em”. At one point Spector ran off with the tapes.

I read her bio, Phil Spector got her a set of twin boys for a Christmas present.
Paul McCartney was incensed at the overdubs Spector had done to “The Long and Winding Road.” Paul later cited this as one of the reasons he left the Beatles.
Never understood the musical appeal. Wall of sound just sounded like an assault on the ears to me. I will grant that “Be My Baby” was a good record but sort of starts and ends there for me.
It’s kind of hard to understand back when Stereo was still a novelty.
Records were produced to sound good on AM Radio.
Has a scientist measure the gravitational pull of that wig? There’s a paper to be written on that.
