I may be stating the obvious, but I think “Puff” refers to the Vietnam-era C-47 cargo plane that was converted into an airborne ground-attack platform with machine guns a-plenty.

Very much the same as the modern-era AC-130 gunship, which I believe is known as ‘Azrael’-the Angel of Death.

Wouldn’t surprise me if a couple of AC-130’s were on standby at Andrews.
