After WW II, we never relied on anything from the Soviet Union. If anything, they came hat in hand when they had yet another unprecedented crop failure or when they sneaked in to steal technology.

On the other hand we have set up so we rely on China for cheap manufacturing and to lend back to us money we paid them for their cheap stuff so we can either buy more cheap stuff or to fund our spendthrift ways. They have become the ants while we are the grasshoppers - and it looks like summer is ending. Unfortunately the new grasshopper king is beholden to the ants.

Russia’s economy is a dumpster fire. It always has been.

China on the other hand comes bearing the gift of a billion potential customers. Our corporations are so hot to push their earnings up next year they sell out. Our government, bought and paid for through corner offices across the country is only happy to accommodate that commerce.
