Poor owl - but stuff happens.
I’m actually rather fond of owls - the real ones, not the symbolic ones. There is a Great Horned Owl that visits the woods behind me from time to time. It’s very low, gentle “who-who” seems kind enough, but forest critters beware - the GHO is the king of the forest at night.
We’re glad to have owls around too. Last summer had we a pair of barn owls in a pine tree near our bedroom window. It was comforting to hear their soft hoots, and I think they were probably hunting mice in the pasture. Sometimes screech owls will hunt in our open barn if the snow in the woods is deep. Helps keep the rodent population down.
