Edward William CoonIf it was this guy's last name, then it can't very well be related to the racial slur, can it? He wasn't black, so it isn't as if someone hung a slur on him for a surname.
The world is getting bizarre and tiresome.

Why not call it Edward’s Why not leave the name alone and honor the man who developed the process?
Why not issue a statement the name has nothing to do with a racist past and you will be keeping the name?
Why not stand up for a cause when you're in the right?
This had nothing to do with racism. The cowards capitulated because even being in the right they refused to defend their position.

I thought maybe they’d go with Spade or Jig Cheese. Of course, Darkie tooth paste was re-branded Darlie a few years ago (after Colgate tried, and rejected Dakkie), so they got ahead of the curve. But Black Person Toothpaste is apparently still Black Person Toothpaste in the Chinese labeling.

Leaving aside the fact that it’s the founder’s name, I was under the impression that in non-American English, coon was slang for racoon, not an ethnic slur. Which I believe was confined to the US. I realize Australian English is different than ours and England’s in many ways, but I’m surprised in a country with no native racoons only imported pets it would be a slur.

Not to mention well developed binocular vision, high intelligence/problem solving capabilities, and a large repertoire of vocalizations. I give em six to thirteen million years before they start writing poetry.

‘Coon’ is most definitely a racial slur in Australia - it may have come from the US, but it was adopted here as a slur a long time ago.
That said, renaming the cheese is ridiculous because the name was not a racial slur in this case - it was a man’s surname.
