No prison time for San Francisco woman charged in father’s dismemberment

A woman charged with murdering her father in a shocking dismemberment case will not serve any time in prison after she struck a plea deal with San Francisco prosecutors and pleaded guilty to desecration of human remains.

Stephanie Ching, 36, of San Francisco also pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact in the death of 73-year-old Benedict Ching, whose severed head and body parts were found last year in the refrigerator of his Ingleside home. She received a suspended sentence of three years in prison and a one-year jail sentence. She has been in jail for 17 months and was credited with time served so she will go free, according to the family.

Stephanie Ching’s husband, Douglas Lomas, 45, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the case and was sentenced to six years in prison.

The couple made headlines last year when they were captured with the help of Homeland Security agents when they fled San Francisco and caught a flight to China. They were extradited back to the U.S. to face murder and conspiracy charges after investigators discovered a gruesome scene at the home of her father. Besides the body parts, police found a circular saw in his bathtub and “unknown biological matter” in the toilet.

But that case would soon prove untenable, after the San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office was unable to find a definitive cause of death — in part because the body was dismembered.”

(snip)...prosecutors could not provide the required intent for murder, “despite the shocking actions of the defendants subsequent to Mr. Ching’s death.”

So, if I were to commit a really heinous crime, one that could reasonable incur the death penalty, do you all think that if I hurry up and register as a democrat I’ll be okay?
