-- As 2021 is already underway, can they change taxes for this year? or only for future years? --

They can change them retroactively if they want. It's not an ex post facto violation because it isn't a criminal violation. There is no constitutional limit to confiscation as long as it is labeled "tax."

I think you’re right. I remember, was it Clinton?, who signed a bill that increased taxes from the beginning of the year.

I looked it up. By golly, you’re right. The courts have already ruled that going back one year was fine and dandy. But what about going back more than one year? I could find no definitive ruling either way there.

So let’s say Biden/Harris want to go back five years, and impose additional taxes on us. Then I guess it would go to our wonderful Supreme Court. They’ll probably nod yes like a bunch of bobble-heads.

After all, it would be for the children. And for Mother Earth. And stuff.
