I do not like Parler wanting a phone number. Seems like controlled opposition.
The issues I had with Parler are the following:
1. I spent several days trying to figure out why I couldn’t sign up for an account. I’d get all the way through the process up to the Captcha verification and it would always fail despite me getting it right every time. It turned out I already had an account. Error message? Hello, McFly?! No error message indicating I already had an account. That means the fargining moron who wrote this crap didn’t even consider it and didn’t code the error handling for that situation. This is basic shiite folks.
2. When I finally got on I would see tons of posts coming out of Dan Bongino’s account even after I unfollowed his account.
3. Lifelock alert on the email account I used to sign up. Never happened before then. Hasn’t happened since I deleted my account. Just saying.
They did get hacked. I’m sure they’ve fixed the issue but now it doesn’t matter. Parler was hosted on Amazon’s AWS platform. AWS is Amazon’s cloud service. TONS of companies use it. Basically they provide you with virtual machines to run your shiite on. All your servers for your web site are ‘in the cloud’. We’re talking from the smallest website to something commercial like Expedia.com or my former employer.
Gab has their own physical servers. Software wise they need a lot of improvement too. All these alternative sites were rushed with little software testing (my specialty).
