In high school we had to read a book called the road less traveled. If I remember correctly the main point was the book was the importance of delaying gratification in order to better set things up in the future.

“The Road Less Traveled” by M. Scott Peck. It’s a good book about how evil can overcome a person. He expounded further on that topic in “People of the Lie” which explains a lot about human evil. He has written 7 or 8 books. He was a psychiatrist IIRC.

Explains a lot about liberals.
