Garbage like Reddit makes me sick ... Usenet has been around forever and is a far, far, far better approach to hosting discussion forums. You could choose whatever style of front end for it that you want (i.e. minimalist all the way up to GUIs loaded with nonsense or Web interfaces). It has everything but the ability to vote things up or down :-).
Facebook is ridiculous too (as we all know) ... and I don’t even need to bring up the issues with their primary application! Secondary Facebook apps like Messenger also kill me ... IRC is out there and would be perfect for chatting/Instant Messaging/etc ... however, it seems like 90% of the planet uses Facebook Messenger for IMing now thus exposing Facebook to even more data. Disgusting.
I’d love to see these big tech companies collapse ... if anything, the fire sale they’d have on high end networking equipment could be a godsend for people that want to make their sites more like the way Internet pioneers envisioned them vs. this Communist garbage we have now.
Such an event would spawn another tech revolution ... it may be bigger than the late 1990s this time around seeing that people actually know what they’re doing this time, and won’t be as easily sidetracked with shiny metal objects like pets.com :-).
Hah! I kept my facebutt account open but haven’t posted or commented on anything in it close to a year.
I hoping maybe that annoys facebutt more than getting off it would.
