I would have said "I have been notified in writing that four state legislatures are claiming disagreement in the legality of some electors. There is no constitutional rule that the count is done on any particular day before Jan 20 so I am delaying the count for 10 days so congress can investigate and the state legislators can certify the electors they send in."

Trying to pass the buck at the expense of peace and stability of the government and country is cowardice.

Any man that proclaims a faith in God and love of country and then shirks his sworn duty to said country is a man without substance, honor or country.

Unfortunately, US Election code does require, specifically, by clearly and unambiguously calling out the exact date, that the votes be read and counted on Jan 6.
