Savant is right, but the police Union President said the police were woefully outmanned, and were failed by their leadership. (Presumably, over the weak police numbers. Idk.)
When asked about the cop seen removing the barrier for the mob, he said the cop may have been trying to de-escalate the tension, because he was greatly outnumbered and had no team on hand to stop them.
That is possible, but he is the Union president and not the Chief of Police, who has resigned over the fiasco at the Capitol.
