Not recommended - even though we know it works fine.

I just didn’t want the jars exploding. if I get some I’ll try it.
Certainly they’ll be fine for water bath and that will give me the confidence to try more.
That's the ticket! Start small - a few at a time to see if it works for you.
I first tried just canning jars of water to see if the jars would hold up.
Avoid abrupt changes in temperature.
I make sure that cold jars are not just dumped in hot water.
Bring temps up gradually together.
Hot jars for hot pack and get them in the canner before they cool.
When done allow them to cool down gradually as with any other jar.
But I do all that with all jars - store bought and recycled.

I got REALLY lazy with the ball jars and lids with that. Those things to seem to seal no matter what I do. But then I bought the tattlers and everything changed. Like you said, I used toucan water to practice to make sure of my technique. My first batch I wasted seven jars of something, can’t remember what. But we had a lot to use up. Other than stock I don’t usually can things that I would want to cook again.
But those lids do best with the same technique, keeping everything nice and hot. So I had to go back to the original instructions and actually follow them. So I’m used to that so when I find some pasta jars I’ll be ready.
That’s a good prepper tip, using those jars. I think anything we can recycle will be great. Unfortunately things are not made as well as they were in our Grandparents Day, like recycling shoes. Who can even imagine doing that now! Or turning collars on clothes. They all wear out long before you can even think about it.
