He signed the Insurrection Act last night at around midnight.

Sorry to be so confused, what exactly does the insurrection act do? Just allow the president to deploy troops within the US? I guess if the left is calling the events of 1/6 an insurrection, then even for them, the insurrection act must be the way to go?
