First item to report:
When approaching the mansion itself for the house tour, there were 12-18 soldiers in current fatigue uniform practicing some sort of drill. Couldn't tell much except heard 'infantry you go here, calvary you follow there’ etc. I thought it odd that they weren't doing this at the nearby fort instead of the bowling green of Mount Vernon.
Right when we were starting the house tour, they finished. I heard one of the interpreters talking to one of the soldiers; he said they were busy with things ‘what with getting ready for the Inaugural and all'. The interpreter said ‘I thought it would be virtual’ and the soldier said ‘we'll be there live’. I can only assume they we're practicing their formation for the inaugural parade.
