Hidden Watchers
In Winter we can be content, Or choose to have our time misspent. The frozen river makes a path, Where hidden watchers take their bath.
With patience, all the fish look up, Now safe within their egglike cup. The silvered light shows fleeting sights, More fleet of foot than insect flights.
Unblinking in a staring sleep, Does boredom cause the fish to weep? Then who would know, or choose to care, For tears of those who cannot share?
So shelter not too snugly down, But stir out and go see the town, Though chills may sometimes come to creep, You'll have more fun than fish who weep.
