Unusual just because it’s not done any more isn’t valid.
In those days, there were some pretty vicious methods of execution, drawing and quartering comes to mind...ackack.
But hanging and firing squad sound normal and perfectly fine to me. And need to be more usual.
I was thinking along the lines of bringing back the gladiator games.
