It sounds like one or more of the pharmaceutical companies may be using the term sterilization in both the common sense and the pharmaceutical sense.
I have a neighbour who was a sales rep for a pharmaceutical company and she wouldn’t take even an aspirin. I asked her once why not and she said it was all poison. I lost touch with her but have been considering wandering by when I know she’ll be gardening and asking some better questions.
