The cell line (I forget the designation, MRC something...) is derived from fetus aborted back in 1961 or 1963 IIRC.
In theory, that would probably have been the consequence of an abortion performed as a lifesaving procedure in a hospital and the subsequent use of the deceased cell lineage for other human palliative research and measures to save life would be a noble disposition for the remains.
Any theological commentary on this by others more cogent in that field than I would be welcome...
