Reminds me that long ago a psychological study was conducted where people in the study were ordered to turn a dial a shock someone. There was no actual shock being administered, but the subject didn’t know this.

The actor “receiving” the fake shock would scream in pain ever louder as the subject would be told to administer the shock. Subjects sometimes hesitated, but would continue to administer the ever increasing shocks when ordered to do so.

They would continue following orders to administer shocks even after the actor receiving the shocks pretended to die from the shocks.

People do as they are told, up to and including killing others, if ordered to do so by a superior.
