Beautiful excerpt from Nixon’s speech.
Here is a bit from Churchill’s speech I saved on my desktop:
June, 1940
The whole fury and might of the enemy must very soon be turned on us. Hitler knows that he will have to break us in this island or lose the war. If we can stand up to him, all Europe may be freed and the life of the world may move forward into broad, sunlit uplands.
But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new dark age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science. Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves, that if the British Empire and its Commonwealth[e] last for a thousand years, men will still say, “This was their finest hour.”
Thank you for these timeless words of Churchill.
WE HAVE OUR CHURCHILL NOW.
I hate to mention it, but Churchill was sidelined by the Brits in the 1930s ... only to be brought back in 1940 when then threat of Third Reich could no longer be denied.
The rising China is at least as great a threat as Hitler was ... but half the people (and almost all the media) do not seem to comprehend it ... yet.
“The whole fury and might of the SLIDES has been turned on us,...”.
(Apologies for bastardizng a great, historical narrative, but it’s apt.)
