Despite being somewhat panned, I thought everyone turned in good, if not great, performances in “Annie.” Reinking got to show off her dance moves. Carol Burnett was superb. Tim Curry was sublime (I thought he was far superior in this than in “Rocky Horror”), perhaps his best performance ever.
I actually had a terrible crush at the time on the actress who played the title role, Aileen Quinn. Although it was on the actress, not when she was outfitted as the character and with the awful red Jewfro wig that made her look like Gene Wilder’s progeny. I was really surprised her career never took off in film and tv as I thought Reinking’s would.
I haven’t seen this or any of the other film/TV versions of Annie. How do you think they stack up (if you have seen the others)?
