I think it resembles the plot of The Godfather. In both the novel and the movie, the arrival of heroin sets things in motion. Sollozzo is the "apostle" of this new trade in narcotics and attempts to convince Don Corleone that it would be a lucrative business for him be in. Sonny Corleone tells his father "there's a lot of money in that white powder." And it's generally agreed that it's "the coming thing." The Don turns down Sollozzo's offer and a war breaks out among New York's "Five Families."
China is the coming thing. It is poised to become the largest economy on earth and it has ambitions to be the planet's military hegemon, positions currently held by the United States.
Traitors in this country of both parties regard both of these as inevitable and want in on the ground floor.
